REI Memphis
REI leased a space formerly occupied by national chain Sports Authority. In order to meet the demands of REI, the existing structure required extensive alterations. Complicating matters were the fact that the existing façade consisted primarily of concrete tilt-up panels that stepped in and out considerably across the entire tenant space. In order to generate the flat, planar facades of REI, the existing concrete panels had to be removed and the front structure of the building re-engineered.
This was no small feat. Temporary shoring was required to support the roof structure while the panels were removed, and new supporting steel structure erected. The resulting interior spaces and façade are ones of elegance and graceful proportion. Quality materials included stone cladding, corrugated metal, cedar siding, and exposed structural steel framing form a rich material palette that stands in stark contrast to the typical materials of today’s retail centers.
