Mid-South Christian College

Mid-South Christian College has existed on the same campus in south Memphis for decades. Under the leadership of President Griffin, the college sought a broad review of its campus aimed at driving growth in the coming years. A masterplan was undertaken by designshop where primary access to the campus was identified as a significant shortcoming. The masterplan proposed an entirely new entrance to the campus from a major thoroughfare, one that offered a sense of arrival and place. The process of developing the masterplan revealed the need for a new, multi-functional facility that could house administration offices, public meeting and lecture halls, as well as living accommodations for the college’s growing foreign student body.

As a result of the masterplan, the college has secured the rights to land allowing for the new campus entrance as Phase I of construction. A new entrance drive, signage, and ornamental fencing have been constructed to provide a much-improved sense of arrival to the campus. Phase II includes the construction of the new commons building designed around the concept of connectivity: student to student, student to faculty, and college to community. In addition to a varied program of uses, the building reintroduces the idea of a front-porch as it serves as the front porch to the remaining campus. Mid-South Christian College has undertaken a capital campaign to raise the necessary funding for construction of the Student Commons building.
